General Guide

Healing

Chunky's low HP Regeneration scaling and irreparably low Life Steal make it difficult to reliably recover HP. Low Dodge scaling also means that the most effective way to improve survivability is to invest heavily into Max HP and Armor to simply be able to take as many hits as possible. HP Regeneration and Dodge can still be beneficial, but they will require twice the investment for the same value compared to other characters.

The one efficient source of HP recovery for Chunky is Luck. Luck increases the chance for Enemies to drop consumables which recover a base of 3 HP.

Chunky heals an additional +3 HP from consumables for a total of 6, and further investment in "+X HP recovered from consumables" through Lemonade.png Lemonade and Weird Food.png Weird Food is easily manageable.

The Tree.png Tree item can also provide more consumables from trees as well as more item drops when combined with a high Luck stat.

Other sources of supplemental HP recovery include:

  • Cute Monkey.png Cute Monkey - Heals an average of 8 HP per 100 Materials collected. Stacking multiple Cute Monkeys will provide considerable healing.
  • Medical Turret.png Medical Turret - Heals 3 HP every 3 seconds while within the turret's range.

Speed

Since Speed modifications are reduced by 100%, Chunky's movement speed cannot be modified from its base value. All Speed increases and decreases from items should be disregarded when considering whether or not to purchase them. Esty's Couch.png Esty's Couch, for example, can never provide Chunky with HP Regeneration since Speed cannot be reduced below 100%, effectively turning it into nothing more than a very expensive increase of 6.25 Max HP and ~2% Damage.

However the items with Speed Decreases become very attractive options.

Synergies

Item Effect Notes
+1 Armor
-2% Speed
Helmet increases your armor, an important stat for Chunky. You get to ignore the speed downside.
+3 Armor
+5 Max HP
-5% Speed
Warrior Helmet increases your armor and Max HP, two important stats for Chunky. You get to ignore the speed downside.
+1 HP recovered from consumables Lemonade increases the amount of healing gained from consumables, one of Chunky's only way to reliably regain HP.
+2 HP recovered from consumables
-2% Dodge
Weird Food increases the amount of healing gained from consumables, one of Chunky's only way to reliably regain HP. The Dodge downside is halved, or can be fully ignored if you don't use dodge.
+15 Max HP
Restore +4 HP per second. Cannot heal any other way.
Torture Provides a large amount of Max HP and a fixed amount of healing of 4 HP each second. Can be powerful if you didn't pick up other means of healing. But be careful, it prevents you from healing with consumables, so it might not be worth it in a lot of cases.
-5 Enemy Speed
-3% Speed
Snail slows down the enemies. If you can't increase your own speed, you can just decrease the speed of the enemies. You also get to ignore the downside of -3% speed.
Hitting an enemy removes +10% of their speed Max: 30%
-3% Speed
Ugly Tooth slows down the enemies on hit. Another way to compensate for your lack of speed. You also get to ignore the downside of -3% speed.
+3 Max HP
+1 Max HP for every 100 Materials you have.
-5% Speed
Padding will increase Max HP by a moderate amount depending on currently held Materials. For every 400 Materials held, Chunky's Max HP is increased by 5 which results in a Damage increase of 1.66%.

Each additional Padding will further increase this bonus, to a point where it might be worth it to save up materials.

Due to Chunky receiving -100% to Speed modifications, Padding has no downsides for this character.
