Burning

Burning is a debuff inflicted by several weapons and the item Scared Sausage.png Scared Sausage. Burn's effect is shown as "5x8 +(100%Elemental Damage.png)", meaning it will burn over the course of 5 seconds dealing 8 base damage (scaling with Elemental Damage and Damage%). Burning cannot Crit or Life Steal. Each weapon has different base damage and duration, which increases with each tier.

Incendiary Turret.png Incendiary Turret also inflicts burn, which is colored blue and scales with Engineering (and not Damage%), but otherwise works identically to normal burn.

Bouncing and Piercing hits can inflict burn on each hit, such as a Double Barrel Shotgun.png Double Barrel Shotgun if you have Scared Sausages, or a Wand.png Wand if you have Ricochet.png Ricochet or Bandana.png Bandana.

Burning does not stack directly. When you apply burn to a target that is already burning, the resulting burn takes the higher damage and higher duration of the two burn sources. This means a weaker burn source can refresh a more damaging burn source's duration (but the highest damage source always gets credit in the damage tracking).

Scared Sausage

Scared Sausage.png Scared Sausage gives most damage sources a 25% chance to inflict burn for 1 + (100%Elemental Damage.png) damage each second, for 3 seconds. Each additional Scared Sausage increases the chance to inflict burn by another 25%, up to a max of 100% when you have 4.

Sausage also gives +1 to the base burning damage of anything that already causes burn, such as Flamethrower.png Flamethrower or Incendiary Turret.png Incendiary Turret. Additional Sausages also increase the burn damage of Sausage itself by +1. It doesn't do anything else for those weapons/items.

What can Inflict Burn

Spread

Snake.png Snakes and Tier-3+ Torch.png Torches make any burn you inflict able to spread the debuff to any nearby enemy that isn't already burning. Each Spread source increases the amount of times the burning effect can spread by +1.

The spread can happen at any point during the burning duration. Fire spread to one enemy can also spread to further enemies. Spread burn uses same counter: so if you have 3 Snakes, one source of burn can only spread a total of 3 times, but any of the targets put on fire can spread it.

Eyes Surgery

Eyes Surgery.png Eyes Surgery reduces the time between each tick of burning damage by 20%, or 0.2 second for each Eyes Surgery you have. This means that targets with the burn debuff will take damage every 0.8/0.6 second. This leads to a 25%/67% increase in the damage per second done by the burn effect.

However the total amount of ticks doesn't increase. So if a burn deals 3x10 damage, it will still only deal 30 damage in total, but it will happen faster. Since multiple burn sources don't stack but instead refresh the duration of the burn, this might not be an issue.


Burn Mechanic Items

These items work with the Burn mechanic. Many of the items are Tagged for Elemental Damage, meaning that they will show up more often for appropriate characters: Mage.png Mage, Technomage.png Technomage.

Weapons

These Weapons inflict burn on hit. Scared Sausage grants these weapons +1 burn damage instead of the normal +25% chance to inflict burn.
