Burning
Burning is a debuff inflicted by several weapons and the item Scared Sausage. Burning deals x + (100%) each second, for y seconds. Each weapon has different base damage and duration that increases with each tier.
The Damage of burn scales with Elemental Damage and Damage But cannot Crit or Life Steal.
Bouncing and Piercing hits can inflict burn on each hit, such as a Double Barrel Shotgun if you have Scared Sausages, or a Wand if you have Ricochet or Bandana.
Scared Sausage
Scared Sausage gives any hit produced by you a 25% chance to inflict burn for 1 + (100%) each second, for 3 seconds. Each additional Scared Sausage increases the chance to inflict burn by another 25%, up to a max of 100% when you have 4.
The Scared Sausage also gives +1 to the base burning damage of weapons that already inflict burning on hit such as the Flamethrower. It doesn't do anything else for those weapons. Since Scared Sausage costs more than 1 elemental damage in general, you might not want to buy Scared Sausages unless you actually use its ability to inflict burn.
What can Inflict Burn
- Spawned projectiles from Alien Eyes, Baby with a Beard, Lightning Shiv, Cacti Club and other weapons can inflict burn if you have one or more Scared Sausage.
- Damage from Baby Elephant, Cyberball, or Riposte doesn't spread either.
- The Explosion from Bull or Landmines can spread fire, same with explosions from Rocket Launcher and other weapons.
- The Explosion from items such as Spicy Sauce or Rip and Tear can't spread burn.
Snake
Snake makes any burn you inflict be able to spread its debuff to any nearby enemy that isn't already burning. Each snake increases the amount of times the burning effect can spread by +1.
The spread can happen at any point during the burning duration. Fire spread by snakes can also spread to more enemies, but it uses same counter, so if you have 3 snakes, it can still only spread a total of 3 times, but any of the targets put on fire can spread it.
Eyes Surgery
Eyes Surgery reduces the time between each tick of burning damage by 10%, or 0.1 second for each Eyes Surgery you have. This means that targets with the burn debuff will take damage every 0.8/0.6 second. This leads to a 25%/67% increase in the damage per second done by the burn effect.
However the total amount of ticks doesn't increase. So if the burn debuff deals 10x3 damage, it will still only deal 30 damage in total, but it will happen faster.
Since multiple burn debuffs doesn't stack, but instead refreshes the duration of the burn, this might not be an issue.
Turrets
Engineering turrets ( Turret, Laser Turret, Explosive Turret, and Tyler) can inflict burn via Scared Sausage. Even the explosion can spread fire.
Incendiary Turret inflicts a separate type of burn with blue fire. The damage of the turret can be increased by 1 for each Scared Sausage you have, but it cannot inflict regular burn. Snakes do spread the blue fire of the turret.
Burn Mechanic Items
These items work with the Burn mechanic, which scales with Elemental Damage. Many of the items are Tagged for Elemental Damage. Meaning that they will show up more often for characters tagged for elemental damage: Mage, Technomage.
