Improved Tools gives 10% Attack Speed, and increases the speed of all Engineering structures by half of the current Attack Speed.
Improved Tools gives 10% Attack Speed, and increases the attack speed and/or spawning rate of all Engineering Structures by half of your Attack Speed Stat. See the Structures page for more details on structures and their default attack speed.

The in-game tooltip for this item incorrectly states that the "attack cooldown" is reduced by the given amount; this is not the case. Instead, the item increases the effect rate of the structures, in the same way as Attack Speed increases the attack rate of weapons.
This applies to , which will spawn faster, and which will generate Consumables faster.

This also applies to Landmines, which will spawn faster, and Gardens which will generate healing fruits faster.
So if you have +100% Attack speed Stat, Improved Tools will make Turrets attack 50% faster, and Gardens spawn Consumables 50% faster.

All Engineering structures are affected, no matter the source of the structure.
The Improved Tools affect all structures with the exception of Wandering Bot, which doesn't attack or spawn anything. Improved tools affect structures no matter their source, so it doesn't matter if a Turret is spawned by the item , the weapon, or the item.

Improved Tools is powerful on all characters and builds with high Attack Speed, as it applies 50% of that stat's effect to all Engineering structures.
Improved Tools tend to be very powerful on Engineering builds, provided you have the attack speed to back it up. Outside of this item, Structures don't benefit from Attack speed, so you might dump the attack speed stat and let it go into the negative values.

It also makes the Attack Speed stat more useful for pure Engineering builds, which would otherwise not invest heavily into that stat.
It is furthermore very strong on builds that heavily rely on , such as  builds. These are common builds for Farmer and Glutton.

It is furthermore very strong on builds that heavily rely on Gardens, such as Pruner builds.
When planning an Engineering build, it can be a good strategy to anticipate picking up this item (especially on Engineering that are tagged for Engineering, so this item is more likely to drop). In this case, you can build Attack Speed early in order to help this item's effect later on. But be warned that Improved Tools is far from guaranteed to drop during a run.

In this case, you can build Attack Speed early in order to help this item's effect later on.
Finally, Improved Tools can be worth it on regular weapon builds that need the attack speed and have a few structures such as a or a . Especially if you already have a good amount of attack speed. For example on One Armed, the 200% attack speed the character starts with, means that Improved Tools will double the attack speed of all structures.

The tooltip of items like shows the drop rate rounded to the nearest second. The internal value used in the game includes decimals however. This is the case for all structures.

Item

Improved Tools is an in-game item that can be bought from a Shop or can be found in a Crate. Most Items modify the Stats of the player, and some of them provide additional effects.

Unique

Improved Tools is a unique item. Only 1 of each unique item can be equipped, and it will then no longer be offered in the Shop, and no longer drop from loot crates.

Improved Tools

Improved Tools gives 10% Attack Speed, and increases the attack speed and/or spawning rate of all Engineering Structures by half of your Attack Speed Stat. See the Structures page for more details on structures and their default attack speed.

This applies to Landmines.png Landmines, which will spawn faster, and Garden.png Garden which will generate Consumables faster.

So if you have +100% Attack speed Stat, Improved Tools will make Turrets attack 50% faster, and Gardens spawn Consumables 50% faster.

The Improved Tools affect all structures with the exception of Wandering Bot, which doesn't attack or spawn anything. Improved tools affect structures no matter their source, so it doesn't matter if a Turret is spawned by the item Turret.png Turret, the Wrench.png Wrench weapon, or the Pocket Factory.png Pocket Factory item.

Strategy

Improved Tools tend to be very powerful on Engineering builds, provided you have the attack speed to back it up. Outside of this item, Structures don't benefit from Attack speed, so you might dump the attack speed stat and let it go into the negative values.

It is furthermore very strong on builds that heavily rely on Garden.png Garden, such as Pruner.png Pruner builds. These are common builds for Farmer.png Farmer and Glutton.png Glutton.

When planning an Engineering build, it can be a good strategy to anticipate picking up this item (especially on Due to Item Tags, the Character(s) Builder.png Builder, Cyborg.png Cyborg, Dwarf.png Dwarf, Engineer.png Engineer, Technomage.png Technomage have a higher chance to find these items in the Shop. that are tagged for Engineering, so this item is more likely to drop). In this case, you can build Attack Speed early in order to help this item's effect later on. But be warned that Improved Tools is far from guaranteed to drop during a run.

Finally, Improved Tools can be worth it on regular weapon builds that need the attack speed and have a few structures such as a Medical Turret.png Medical Turret or a Garden.png Garden. Especially if you already have a good amount of attack speed. For example on One Armed.png One Armed, the 200% attack speed the character starts with, means that Improved Tools will double the attack speed of all structures.

Notes

The tooltip of items like Garden.png Garden shows the drop rate rounded to the nearest second. The internal value used in the game includes decimals however. This is the case for all structures.
