Paddings gives +3 to your Max HP and a further increase depending on your current carried materials. You gain +1 Max HP per 80 materials you have. This is updated dynamically, meaning that your Max HP will increase during a wave as you pick up more materials, but this Max HP is also lost when you spend your materials in the Shop.

The Temporary Materials based Max HP from Padding doesn't work with 's Damage increase from max HP. However, it does work with the Max HP scaling of , , and .

When playing , the Max HP granted from Padding can't be spent in the shop.

Padding can be powerful when combined with strategies of saving up large amounts of materials, such as with or with the Character.

Attack Speed
You attack x% faster with weapons. Getting 100% attack speed means your weapons have their cooldown halved, making you attack twice as fast.

Attack Speed is a powerful way to increase your damage per second, increase your rate of healing with Life Steal, and it allows you to handle big crowds of enemies and horde waves easier.

How the game calculates attack speed is more complicated, but in most cases, it simply makes you attack x% faster. There are some exceptions:
* Melee weapons' attack speed is slightly affected by having higher Range. For example, 100 Range will reduce your attack speed by 3% to 10% (depending on the weapon), tho they will also be able to hit more enemies.

* Negative Attack speed increases the cooldown of your weapons, meaning you attack slower. However, it uses a different formula: You would expect -100% attack speed to double the cooldown of the weapon, but that is only the case for a very few weapons. Slow weapons and ranged weapons are hit harder by negative attack speed. If you have -100% attack speed, a Fist (Tier 4) attacks 14% less often. While a Nuclear Launcher (T4) attacks 46% less often.
* There is a minimum attack speed for weapons. Going too close to this limit results in severe diminishing returns for some weapons. Fast melee weapons like Fist (T4) and Circular Saw (T4) have diminishing returns from 0% Attack speed, but are less affected than ranged weapons. Fast ranged weapons like SMG (T4), Flamethrower (T4), Potato Thrower (T4), and Minigun (T3 & T4) also have diminishing returns from 0% and higher attack speed, and are affected more than the melee weapons. The diminishing returns start out slow, and become more prominent the more attack speed you have. So getting the first 50%-100% attack speed while being affected by diminishing returns can still be worth it, but getting more will give very little value.

It is worth noting that the tooltip rounds the attack speed of your weapons down to the nearest 0.01 second. However this is just a visual - the actual game doesn't round the value.

Attack speed doesn't apply to turrets, or to items like Cyberball, Baby with a Beard, or Rip and Tear.
Notes
Excalibur is quite an extraordinary weapon. It boasts an impressive 200 Base damage, 200% Melee Damage and Max HP Scaling. It has a low cooldown and a 2.5 Critical Hit multiplier.

Together, these stats make Excalibur the highest Damage per Second Melee weapon by far. However, it comes at a cost. Excalibur gives you -3 Armor for each weapon you have. So for most builds, this means -18 armor for 6 weapons. However, some characters are able to evade this downside.

* One Armed only has one weapon, meaning you're just taking a single -3 to your armor.
* Ghost starts with -100 Armor, and due to how negative armor works, there is barely any difference between -100 and -118 Armor.

In addition, the Sword is very expensive with a base price of 260, it also has the Legendary Weapon Class, meaning you'll lose Max HP from having more than one Legendary Weapon.

Despite the weapon class of Legendary and unique Name of the Sword you can actually have multiple Excaliburs.

General Guide
Damage
The Masochist begins with Damage, meaning that most weapons will deal only damage until the player takes enough hits to stack the damage buff.

Taking 20 hits (regardless of how much damage each hit deals) will completely offset this initial downside with Damage. Additional hits taken beyond this point will continue to stack the Damage bonus into the positives.

It is better to be hit by Enemies that deal low damage. Such as:

Stats
The following stats will help to mitigate damage taken from enemies while intentionally taking hits:
*Max HP increases the amount of damage that can be taken.
*HP Regeneration and Life Steal increase HP recovery.
**Luck will increase the rate of health pickup drops from Enemies - another effective but less reliable source of HP recovery.
*Armor is very important to reduce the damage taken from each hit.
*Dodge can be helpful to reduce the frequency of hits taken, but will also reduce the rate at which Damage will be stacked.
**Ideally, Dodge should be kept as low as possible unless Blood Donation has been acquired while other defensive stats should be prioritized.
Turrets and mines are not affected by the Damage stat. This means that their damage will not be reduced by the initial Damage debuff, but they will also not benefit from the Damage buff received when taking damage.

Synergies
| style="text-align:center" |
|Blood Donation
|Blood Donation deals 1 damage to the player every second while giving +40 to Harvesting.
The damage dealt by Blood Donation will trigger the Masochist's passive effect, providing +5% Damage every second when it triggers. This provides a way to quickly stack Damage each wave while taking significantly less damage to do so. For comparison, the rate at which the Masochist's Damage increases with Blood Donation will be five times the rate provided by Wisdom, completely counteracting the initial -100% Damage debuff within the first 20 seconds of each wave and adding an additional +100% Damage for each additional 20 seconds that pass.

The first 10 points of HP Regeneration will provide enough HP recovery to offset Blood Donation's damage, and the Masochist begins with 20 - making it safe to purchase at any time. Once acquired, investing in Dodge may also become more valuable to reduce how many hits are taken from Enemies since the damage from Blood Donation cannot be dodged and will provide a sizable boost on its own.

Obtaining a second Blood Donation will not increase the rate at which Damage increases but will increase the damage taken each second to 2 while providing another +40 Harvesting.

|-
| style="text-align:center" |
|Bloody Hand
|Bloody Hand deals 1 damage to the player every second while giving +40 to Harvesting.
Bloody Hand provides the same benefits that Blood Donation does, triggering Masochist's passive effect once per second.

Depending on how much lifesteal you already have, Bloody Hand can provide extra healing and Damage instead of providing harvesting.

Piercing
Piercing is a secondary stat that applies to projectiles. A projectile with piercing x, will have its projectile continue through that amount of enemies instead of disappearing. Weapons have a default 50% damage falloff on each pierce unless another number is stated. Meaning that the attack deals 50% less damage on the next hit after piercing an enemy.

Some Weapons have piercing by default, and piercing can be gained on all projectiles with the Bandana item.

If a projectile has both Bounce and Piercing, the Bounce occurs first. Be wary of buying Ricochet with weapons that relies on piercing, as the Damage falloff of the bounce will cause all the following piercing hits to do -50% damage.

* Explosive projectiles explode on every bounce and pierce.
* Piercing affects all projectiles. This includes ranged weapons, Turrets, and projectiles spawned by weapons such as Cacti Club.
* A piercing projectile will inflict knockback on each hit, unless it has bouncing. A projectile stops knocking enemies back once it bounces.

Damage falloff
Every weapon has a damage falloff. The default is 50%, but some weapons like the Crossbow (0%) or Double Barrel Shotgun (30%) have different amounts. This falloff means that the attack deals x% less damage rounded down after piercing a target.

For example if you have a Tier 1 Double Barrel Shotgun which pierces 2 times with -30% damage on each, and a bandana which adds +1 piercing, the damage would be as follows:

Say the first enemy takes 10 damage, it then pierces to the next target, dealing 7 damage. It then pierces again, dealing 70% of 7= 4.9 which is rounded down to 4 damage dealt. Finally, the bandana enters and the shot pierces the third time, dealing 2 damage on the final hit. - A total of 10+7+4+2=23 damage.

If you had a pumpkin in the same example, the first shot would deal 10, pierce dealing 85% damage, rounded down to 8 damage. Then Pierce again dealing 6 damage. Then the bandana pierce would deal 5.1 rounded down to 5 damage. A total of 10+8+6+5=29 damage.

Piercing works with any projectile. Even the ones from Alien Eyes, Baby with a Beard, Cacti Club, and Turrets.

Sharp Bullet
is a cheap tier 1 item that gives you +1 Piercing, just like the Bandana. But it comes at the cost of increasing the damage falloff by 20%. So this means that instead of the default 50% damage on the second hit, you're only doing 30%. You can overcome this by getting an extra pumpkin or two. Sharp Bullet tends to be a quite powerful option on most ranged weapons that don't have piercing by default. On the other hand it often isn't worth it on weapons that have piercing by default such as .

Critical Hits
Piercing attacks deal critical hits on individual basis. If the first target hit is dealt a critical hit, it doesn't make the rest of the targets hit also be critical hits, nor does it increase the damage dealt to the next target. So if you in the former example crit on the first hit and deal 20 damage, the next target still takes 7 damage.

Luck
Luck improves the following things:
* It increases the amount of consumables dropped by enemies.
* It increases the chance that a consumables dropped is a Loot Crate (including those from Trees).
* It Improves the Tier of Items found in Loot Crates and in the Shop.
* It Improves the Tier of Upgrades being offered when leveling up.

Positive Luck multiplies your chances, so 100% luck doubles your chances. While negative luck divides your chances of finding higher tier upgrades, items, and weapons. So -100% luck halves your chances. For Consumables, negative luck multiplies your chances, so -50 Luck halves the amount of consumables dropped and -100 Luck means no consumables will drop at all, except from Loot Hoarders, Elites, and Bosses, which are guaranteed to drop Consumables.

While luck in itself has no limit, several of its benefit have maximums or diminishing returns.

For example, the rarity of items and upgrades offered, already naturally increases with the wave number, and has a maximum chance, that you already hit in the later waves naturally even with 0 luck. So additional luck only helps earlier in the game with getting Tier 2 and 3 items and upgrades. However it takes about 290 Luck before you reach the maximum on Legendary items and Upgrades.

Check Rarity of Shop Items to see details on Luck's effect on shop rarities.

Whenever an enemy drops a consumable, that consumable has a chance to be a Loot Crate. This chance is multiplied by Luck. Since 100 Luck both doubles the chances for a consumable to drop, and doubles the chance for that consumable to be a loot chest, 100 luck increases the chance for the first chest to drop by 300%.

But note that each Item Box dropped reduces the chance of the next dropping, giving you some diminishing returns.

Formula for loot crate drop chance:

Enemy_Box_Drop_Chance * (100% + Luck) / (1 + Box_Spawned_This_Wave)

Luck can be seen as an investment into your economy, and even become a powerful method of Healing when combined with Lemonade and Weird Food, if you have high enough luck. There isn't diminishing returns on the chance for Consumables to drop.
